【Two hundred thousand food delivered to the children in Africa, a collaboration project with Rakuten Recipe and TABLE FOR TWO】

“Chotto Iikoto”(Something Good for everyone) “Rakuten Recipe XTABLE FOR TWO” Collaboration Project
~Enter a recipe on our site and donate a school meal to Africa~
Thank you to all our users at Rakuten Recipe!!
The school meal that we have delivered to Africa has reached 200,000!
Rakuten Recipe started the co-project with Table For Two in February 2011.  Rakuten Recipe first started to provide an opportunity for people to enjoy a more happy and healthy life. We collect a variety of original recipes that people would enjoy around the world.  Taste differs according to each household, but to share that recipe online also means passing on important tradition to the next generation.
Rakuten Recipe would like to become a platform that helps this passing on of knowledge.
This is one of the reasons why we decided to start our co-project with the TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) project.
TFT is a wordwide organization that is tackling with the imbalance of food around the world.  For example in our world of almost 7 billion, 1 billion suffer from hunger and malnutrition, while an equal number face obesity, diabetes, and other health issues related to “overnutrition.”  In order to solve these problems, TFT partners with restaurants, corporate cafeterias, and other food establishments to serve healthy, nutritionally balanced TFT-branded meals. An extra bit of charge is added to the price of these meals, which is used to provide school lunches in countries including Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.
Helping another become happy through “food”. is something that we felt was close to our concept.  In the “Rakuten Recipe XTABLE FOR TWO” collaboration campaign when you enter a recipe,10 yen worth of donation is made for the project.  The fee for a meal at the supporting areas, cost about 20 yen per person.  Therefor your 2 original recipes will equal to one meal.

And NOW! “Rakuten Recipe XTABLE FOR TWO” program has now achieved a goal of 200,000 deliveries at the end of May!
Enter your recipe today and help bring a smile to another child in the supporting areas.

【Delivery Report on 49th Rakuten Tasukeai(Love and Aid) Project 】

On March 22 Thursday, our staff delivered rice from Fukushima as a part of the Rakuten Tasukeai (Love+ Aid).

We delivered them to Yumoto Dainijunior high school which is currently being used as a warehouse to stock support goods.  The principal of this school who is very dedicated to helping the recovery of the disaster areas, are collaborating with the volunteer groups around them to provide supplies to the places in which they are truly needed.

The principal mentioned, one of the school goals, “Become the one to create, not just receive”.  He asks his students to aggressively join in the volunteer activities, and they recently went on a joint volunteer activity with the students from Nasushiobara city to clean up the rubble near the seashore.

He believes that the children’s energy and power will bring up the motivation of other adults who are still feeling down from the disaster. As you can see from this picture, the students helped us with the delivery activity on this day as well.

【Rakuten Tasukeai (Love and Aid)  Live your life first to be able to support others】

Hi everyone ! This is Sanae from Rakuten Tasukeai (Love+ Aid).

On March 23 Friday, our staff delivered the Rakuten Tasukeai (Love+ Aid). goods to 2 schools in Minamisanriku Motoyoshigun Miyagi prefecture.  The details are written here.

When making deliveries I ask our staff to take pictures of the areas surrounding the place where we take the goods.  This is because people including me, would like to know what is happening “Now” to the disaster areas.  I know that pictures may not be enough, but I believe it is our duty or belief that doing something is better than doing nothing..  Last year at the end of May, I went to Minammisanrikucho.  I have never forgotten the scenery that I have seen that day.  However When I saw the pictures that the staff had taken at this time, I was very shocked.  The scenery in the picture had hardly any difference with the scenery I have seen 10 months ago. Of course considering the severe damages that took place in the area, building would not appear again very soon. But I was so shocked.  I live in Tokyo now, but I get to see what is happening to the disaster areas everyday on the news , and on the internet.  However my mind had somehow thought different.

I was interpreting the messages like “Cheer Tohoku” or “You can make it Tohoku ” the way that I wanted to feel comfortable with.

I feel stronger now that in order to be able to support somebody, means that you need to live your life very firmly.  Even turning off a light and saving energy is one method, thinking about Japan’s future in 10years, 20years, 100 years is also something very important.  The owner of Asabiraki Jyuichidaime Genzoya mentioned, “The power of one may be small, but it’s not nothing” Don’t you wonder how things may turn out, to something you kept on thinking for ten years or 20years?!  I would like to share the picture with you that have made me think about many things.  Currently we are selling helmets and bicycles to send to Kazuma elementary school in Ishinomaki.  Please take a look at our website.

Rakuten Tasuke ai Project

Getting back to normal

Hello, everyone! I’m Sanae with Rakuten Tasuke ai.

How did you spend March 11 this year?
I went through my typical daily routine, but from when I woke up until I went to sleep it felt like a part of my mind was looking back on my actions of last March 2011.
I remember thinking that I did this in the morning and I did that in the afternoon last March 11, or that I felt this type of emotion after the Great East Japan Earthquake. These were my thoughts during this March 11. I also found myself very grateful for the fact that today I can go on with my daily routine.

Changing topics a bit, yesterday (March 21) was actually the delivery date for the bicycles donated by everyone as part of the 42nd Rakuten Tasuke ai Project.

I’ve yet to look over the delivery report, but before I do I have one thing to mention.
The shopkeeper of Cycle Network,<!—[if !supportAnnotations]—>[YM1]<!—[endif]—>  the shop that sold the bicycles, has spent more than 30 years engaged in traffic safety activities as a certified bicycle safety instructor.

Whenever I talked with him before, I recognized just how passionate he is about bicycle safety and how he focuses his efforts in this area over business.
Actually, I’m not really good at riding a bicycle, but that’s a secret, you know. (^^*

The shopkeeper contacted me and said that he had held a bicycle and traffic safety class for students at Mangokuura Elementary School in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture in advance of the bicycle deliveries.
(The shopkeeper is willing to go anywhere in Japan to teach bicycle safety and has done so at countless schools in the past.)

He has developed his own curriculum that requires more than three hours to cover. Classes are split between lower grades, middle grades and higher grades. He does everything himself, which must be a lot of work, but I can imagine that his passion means he doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to instructing students. (^^*

His classes are carefully tailored to fit the actual circumstances of the local community. Curriculum for this particular session included a range of topics from explanations about regional traffic changes since the earthquake using video footage, to the rules of the road when riding a bike on a public street as well as bicycle maintenance / upkeep and explanations on dangerous areas on the way to school using actual images shot in and around the Mangokuura district.

Apparently, the students in his class listened quite enthusiastically.

The news covers a lot of major issues in these communities, such as debris disposal operation and employment, which are each, of course, quite important, but I also felt the shopkeeper is doing a wonderful service by humbly instructing students about something that is very important in their everyday lives and that often tends to be overlooked. (^^*

I thought it would be even more wonderful to let everyone know that this type of effort is a key part of the reconstruction effort.

The Rakuten Tasuke ai Project is still underway.

The next activity includes donations of bicycles and helmets to Kazuma Elementary School in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. We also plan to deliver face masks to elementary and junior high school students in Minami Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture as well as tool sets to all temporary housings located in Iwate Prefecture.

Take a look when you have the time.
